If you chose Maniac as your character, you should not have to worry about regenerating energy. Instead of the usual 5 minutes, a Maniac does it in 3 minutes to get a point. When you move up a level, it completely refills. Another source of energy is obtaining it from the Godfather. Last but not the least, do not forget the Energy Paks.
Properties

Logging on for the very first time on Mafia Wars can be exciting. For some, it still leaves them clueless on what do they do next. As with any other game, the way you play the game and outcome depends entirely up to the decisions you make along the way. Therefore, starting out and making the right decision from the very start will decide whether or not you are indeed a Mafia in the making. Choosing your name and character

The choices of cash rich, high in energy and superb in health are the three choices available in the form of Mogul, Maniac and Fearless.
Mogul
This is the least interesting of the three characters. A Mogul earns money every 54 minutes compared to other characters that will usually generate it in the interval span of 60 minutes. However, earning an income is the hard way. Mafia Wars is about having passive income. This character may be useful until about level 40 where other things become priority than earning an income. The only plus point of being a Mogul is it allows you to become a Bagman in your friend’s Top Mafia. This is where you can double money from performing jobs. Once again, this is of no real use when passive income can be generated elsewhere.
